  • Use Fresh Beans:
Freshly roasted & ground coffee beans will yield the best flavour.
  • Water Quality:
Use filtered water for the best taste.
  • Consistent Grind:
A consistent coarse grind is crucial to avoid over-extraction and ensure a balanced cup.

By following these steps & experimenting with different variables, you can enjoy a robust & flavourful cup of coffee made with a French press. Enjoy your brew!

Brewing Process

1. Preparation

  • Grind the Coffee: Use a coarse grind, similar to breadcrumbs or sea salt.
  • Boil Water: Heat your water to the desired temperature.
  • Preheat the French Press: Pour some hot water into the French press to preheat it, then discard the water.

2. Add Coffee Grounds

  • Place the French press on a stable surface & add the ground coffee to the empty French press.

3. Add Water

  • Start your timer and pour hot water over the coffee grounds, ensuring all the grounds are saturated. Pour about half of the total water amount (250 grams) initially.

4. Bloom

  • Allow the coffee to bloom for about 30 seconds. This allows the coffee to release trapped gases and prepares it for proper extraction.

5. Stir and Add Remaining Water

  • Stir the coffee & water mixture gently to break up the crust that forms. Then, pour the remaining hot water into the French press.

6. Steep

  • Place the lid on the French press with the plunger pulled all the way up. Let the coffee steep for about 4 minutes.

7. Plunge

  • After 4 minutes, press the plunger down slowly & steadily. Apply even pressure & avoid rushing to ensure a consistent extraction.

8. Serve

  • Once the plunger is fully pressed down, pour the brewed coffee into your mug or carafe immediately to avoid over-extraction.
